United have no need to spend

According to Red Devils' boss Alex Ferguson Man United do not need to strengthen the squad, he asserted that the Uniteds squad is strong enough to compete and there is no reason to spend any more this summer as his side prepares for the 2009-2010 season without Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He believes they are more than strong enough to continue their domination in the domestic game and have no plans as yet to spend the cash they received from Real Madrid for Ronaldo.

He stated in an interview with the Manchester Evening News that, "We don't suddenly have to splash out to stay at the top, here at United we are working from a position of strength".

"Thanks to what has been a long-term policy of buying mostly young players who we think will become top performers in the future, I'd definitely say that we are already there".

He continued "I'm aware that some of our fans were disappointed we spend all that money on another superstar" "And I would have done that if I had felt I would be getting value for money but during the summer a lot of crazy stuff happened and the prices for top players went through the roof".

"We believed that it wasn't realistic and so we held off", "Over the years we have shown that we spend big when we have to and have broken a few transfer records ourselves but the prices being asked for just did not add up for us".
